Chalkboard Makeover

I have wanted to do this forever... super trendy - yes, I know, but what's not to love about a trend involving a project that you can 'recreate' as often as you want?
Yes, I am talking about those giant chalkboards that have been wafting all over pinterest, tantalizing me with their inspiring creative-ness.
It had to be, it just had to.
And how did I do it?

Step One: Find a huge, old frame out in the dumpster behind your workplace (yes, this is what happened)
Step Two: Snatch it and stuff it into your tiny two door car (seats must be folded down)
Step Three: Remove existing old painting of trees and such and sand down gold coloured paint finish on decorative frame. (also, kick yourself for not taking a 'before' photo)
Step Four: Spray Paint frame gloss white.
Step Five: Completely cover said existing work of art with chalkboard paint (can be purchased from Home Depot for a gazillion dollers... or alternately make your own as instructed on 'A Beautiful Mess' here.)
Step Five A: If making own chalkboard paint, be aware that it hardens quickly!  Had to add some water to ease it up a little...
Step Six: Re-install picture into old frame (this involved me nailing and siliconing and gluing the cardboard piece back into the frame.
Step Seven: 'Chalk' the new surface (rub chalk all over it and then wipe/rub it off with a chalkboard brush.)  Creates a white-ish surface that can be easier erased in the future.
Step Eight: Hang it and look up cool slogans on Pinterest to draw creatively on the board.

I hung this in our dining room and absolutely love it - it lets me dress the room up for whatever occasion is on hand. Definitely a winner at 'Friendsgiving'.
